Halloween Fun

Tricks and Treats With a Halloween Festival!

Since Halloween was on the weekend, we celebrated early with a room full of tricks, treats and crafts for the children to make... Let us show you!

We had centers set up for various activities, such as Halloween stamping (above),

and collage making with stickers that weren't TOO spooky.

There was a center for drawing a face on a miniature pumpkin (below),

and making ghostly hands (vinyl food service gloves filled with popcorn),
then adorned with a spider ring on one of the fingers.

The trick (and treat) was eating at least as much popcorn as you put in the glove!

Some of us were bold (above), and others more discreet (below.)
"Let's see... was that two handfuls of popcorn for me and one for the glove, or the other way 'round?"
As we rotated through the centers, the activity that took the longest was the necklace making. We had to really concentrate while we took turns...

To continue our practice with patterns, we decided to string 5 beads and then 1 foam Halloween figure. Each of us could decide the color of the beads and which figure would come next.

We were very careful...
Note the attention to detail,
the fine motor control,

the depth of concentration,

and the math concepts inherent in this task. The children were active in their counting, self correcting when someone realized they had strung 4 or 6 beads instead of 5. This required focus and diligence, and each child was so proud of his/her necklace!

We all wore our necklaces as we finished the morning with Harvest and Halloween songs followed by a pumpkin story.

We hope that your family had a Happy Halloween!

Judith
